Research & Development Coordinator

The Opportunity

The Institute of Education at USP is seeking a suitably qualified person to take up the position of Research & Development Coordinator. The position is offered for 3 years on a renewable contract and is based at the USP Campus in Tonga.

The Research & Development Coordinator will be based in Tonga and will operate mainly within the
IOE unit by reporting directly to the Director and working closely with the Fellows and Corporate staff of the Institute. The appointee will work closely with the Research & Development Program Team to manage and coordinate all activities and resources of the Program. The Coordinator will be part of the Corporate Unit that is providing the Institute with human resources, marketing and communication, logistics and finance support.

The Research & Development Coordinator will also support and assist in the facilitation of regional project activities under the Research & Development Program. In addition, there are associated administrative tasks, which the Coordinator must also undertake, for the office operation and other tasks, which the Institute undertakes from time to time, such as convening and hosting of meetings and conferences.

The staff is expected to be an active team player, willing to be part of a team, open to a culture of collegiality, share work openly and seek assistance when needed from senior staff. The staff will be expected to travel extensively around the 15 member countries of the IOE, be able to work under different socio-economic context and be able to represent the IOE and the USP with respect, honor and trustworthiness. As a member of the IOE team, she/he will be expected to perform well under pressure, be able to meet deadlines with high level of resilience, confidence and agility.


The Person We Seek
To be considered for this position, applicants must have:
- A degree with at least 4 years of relevant work experience, preferably in the Pacific region; or
- Extensive experience in project management, reporting and working in a regional organisation; or
- An equivalent combination of relevant experience and training; and
- Knowledge of one Pacific language; and
- Computer literacy.
Preference will be given to an applicant with:
- Proven experience in a project management role or relevant work experience;
- Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse and multi-cultural team;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Proficiency in spoken and written English;
- Knowledge of relevant computer software for managing projects; and
- Leadership and management skills.

The position is available for a fixed term of 2 years.
Salary Range: TOP $46,603 to TOP $57,061
