SENIOR LIBRARIAN, CUSTOMER SERVICES

The Opportunity

The appointee will have overall management of Customer Services. They will lead, develop, plan, coordinate, manage and review all aspects of Library Customer Services at Laucala Campus with input into regional campus libraries. The position requires the delivery of quality services and management of a team of staff in consultation with the Librarian -in-charge of departments within the section namely readers’ services and special collections. They will also have specific responsibility for a key department within Customer Services. This position is based at the Laucala Campus, Suva Fiji.

The Person We Seek

To be considered for this position, applicants must have:
-A Master’s degree or higher in Library Information Science recognized by an accrediting body such as the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA);
-Demonstrated knowledge and at least 8 years' relevant experience in an academic library;
-Skills in coordinating and motivating a team and identifying targets, applying performance management and quality assurance techniques;
-Significant knowledge and wide experience in customer services; awareness of current regional and national priorities;
-Substantial knowledge and experience in using Library IT applications preferably Symphony and online resources;
-Proven experience in outreach to academics;
-Proven experience in information literacy provision;
-Cross-service working, experience in marketing and responding to customer needs and the ability to participate in wider based multi-service initiatives;
-Well-developed team leadership, consensus building, training, supervisory and performance management skills;
-Ability to develop and implement library strategy and policy aligned to the University Strategic Plan;
-Identify service developments; manage projects, budgets and produce reports;
-Excellent communication (both written and oral) skills and demonstrable abilities to work under pressure, with priorities and delegate tasks;
-Excellent problem solving and analytical skills, including the ability to identify issues and implement sound solutions;
-Demonstrated active involvement with local library associations and/or regional and international professional associations;
-Ability and willingness to work evening, weekend and public holiday duties on a rostered basis.

Preference will be given to applicants with:
-Proven ability to implement and manage change;
-Evidence of service provision in a COVID environment;
-Library management at an executive level
-Experience in dealing with library users in a multicultural environment;
-Work experience or understanding of life in a developing country;
-Evidence of ongoing professional development.

The position is available for a term of three years and may be renewed by mutual agreement.
Salary Range: FJ $84,343 to FJ $103,324 per annum
