Financial Accountant

The Opportunity
USP is seeking an enthusiastic Financial Accountant to join our Finance Section. The appointee will be responsible to the Manager Accounting for the accurate and timely preparation of financial reports of the University and monthly management reports of sections of the University. The position will also assist in annual budget preparation for the University, prepare draft budgets for relevant sections as well as provide financial advice to these sections on budgetary allocation, budget variances, financial regulations, policies and procedures and project accounting functions (development assistance funds).

This role also assists in coordinating the Annual Budget process for USP, Faculties and responsible sections and assists them with prepa1ing their submissions by the due date as well as prepare relevant financial reports, provide accurate and timely financial advice and conduct regular meetings with assigned heads of sections/departments.

The incumbent will be expected to consult with stakeholders to discuss financial and budgetary aspects of their operation, especially to liaise with relevant units on the compliance with policies and procedures of the University in the process of verifying/endorsing expenditure.

The incumbent is also monitor the performance of the management Accounting unit against agreed key performance indicators (KPIs), coach and mentor staff to achieve their KPIs, take appropriate action to address potential barriers to achievement and identity staff development and training opportunities.

The Person We Seek
To be considered for any of this positions, applicants must have:
• A degree and postgraduate qualifications from a relevant discipline; and
• Four (4) years of relevant experience and management expertise;
• In exceptional cases and only with the prior endorsement of the Executive Director People and Workforce Strategy and upon approval from the Vice-Chancellor and President, a degree or professional qualification with significant relevant industry/professional experience may be considered;
• Demonstrate experience in supervisory and leadership at middle management level;
• Excellent oral and written English language skills;
• Experience and competency in MS Word and MS Excel, and other accounting software (computerized General Ledger environment);
• Experience in effective monitoring of work performance of individuals and teams delivering financial management services;
• Financial management of aid/grant & project funds, bank reconciliations and preparation of financial reports;
• Strong organization skills;
• Good analytical skills;
• Supervisory skills with results focused attitude and drive to deliver or achieve unit outputs;
• Experience in managing multiple activities within tight deadlines;
• Consultative and customer focused attitude.

Preference will be given to applicants with:
• Affiliate/provisional or working towards full membership of a relevant professional accounting body;
• Knowledge of the financial management context within which the University operates.

The position is available for a term of three years and may be renewed by mutual agreement.
Salary Range: FJ $50,184 to FJ $61,289 per annum
