Payroll Manager

The Opportunity

The Payroll Manager is responsible for effective coordination and integration of overall payroll and payroll support functions of the University. Working in a deadline driven environment, the appointee will counsel Academic and Non-Academic Sections, Regional Campuses, staff, students and casual employees on all payroll matters such as organizational compliance, taxation and other regulatory compliance, various payments and deductions, documentary requirements, etc. The appointee will also provide expertise and support to various areas including senior management on overall payroll matters and assists in the development of payroll systems and related changes as they occur. The appointee will ensure that all payroll transactions are accurately calculated and that payment is produced in a timely manner for all staff.

The Person We Seek
To be considered for the position, applicants must have:
- Have postgraduate qualification in Accounting, Financial Management, Business Administration, HR or similar field;
- Have 7 years of proven record of knowledge and experience of payroll management systems used in a large and complex organization and handling multi-currency transactions driving improvements, OR at least a good finance or related degree with at least 10 years of experience in a large and complex environment;
- Proven ability to lead and work with others in multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary teams, collaboratively and ethically, across multiple organizational units;
- Must have thorough knowledge of the taxation, superannuation aspects of salary processing and other regulatory compliance requirements across different jurisdictions in which the University operates;
- Experience in preparing annual plans, reports and management reports for Payroll Section;
- Capable of innovating and developing process improvement plans from existing payroll practices;
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills with proven experience in building and sustaining productive internal and external stakeholder relationships;
- Must have good level of IT literacy, familiarity with database, MS Word and MS Excel, and other accounting software (computerized General Ledger environment);
- Must possess established conceptual, analytical and strategic thinking skills including the ability to identify emerging issues, expertise to resolve complex issues and manage innovative solutions to complex problems;
- Able to maintain confidentiality and use sound judgment and discretion;
- Concern for thoroughness, accuracy and integrity.

Preference will be given to applicants with:
- Masters in Accounting, Financial Management, Business Administration, HR or similar field.
- Current member of a related professional body;
- Knowledge and experience in payroll management systems used in a University context handling multi-currency transactions, involving different countries and different tax jurisdiction;
- Experience working or travelling in the Pacific Islands.

The position is available for a term of three years and may be renewed by mutual agreement.
Salary Range: FJ $66,521 to FJ $81,491 per annum
