The Opportunity

The Intellectual Property (IP) Copyright arrangements is an important aspect in providing strong management and administration support of the University. Providing IP and Copyright services as potential fee earning services and protecting IP and Copyrights of the creator and University are important. We are looking to recruit an exceptional professional in this area to consolidate current practice, lead developments, promote the benefits and provide services.

The appointee will be responsible to:

• Setting up an IP and Copyright services for the University (covering all of the University’s campuses across the Pacific region).
• Promoting the IP and Copyright service in the Pacific region;
• The development and maintenance of IP and Copyright policies and procedures, and monitoring compliance to these.
• Provide directions on IP and Copyright legislation, international conventions and protocols and ensuring that the impacts are clearly communicated.

The Person We Seek

To be considered for this position, applicants must:
- Have at least a relevant Bachelor’s degree (e.g. law, business, library science, etc) and 5 years direct relevant in managing intellectual policy applications and Copyright compliance processes.
- Be able to demonstrate an understanding of teaching, learning and research practices in a University environment.
- Be demonstrable in-depth knowledge of IP management and Copyright legislation;
- Be demonstrable ability to monitor and assess impact and required changes related to legislative developments in the area of IP and Copyright in the USP region and internationally;
- Have ability to lead the development of IP and Copyright policies, procedures, systems, and services;
- Have ability to identify and act on Copyright infringements;
- Have ability to deal with all matters relating to the licensing and potential commercialization of IP;
- Be demonstrable capacity to act ethically, to resolve ethical dilemmas and to encourage ethical behavior in others;
- Have budget and contract management/Service Level Agreement skills; and
- Have efficient data management skills to develop and manage an electronic database for potentially multiple clients.

Preference will be given to applicants with:

- A post graduate/Master’s degree in a discipline relevant to the post (e.g. law, business, library science, etc.) and post-degree experience of delivering IP and Copyright services to several clients.
- Demonstrable knowledge and experience of the IP legislation/protocols and Copyright legislations specific to the Pacific Islands; and
- Demonstrable experience in a University environment.

The position is available for a term of three years and may be renewed by mutual agreement.
Salary Range: FJ $66,521 to FJ $81,491 per annum
